The north Aegean islands are a number of disconnected islands in the north Aegean Sea, belonging to Greece and Turkey. The islands do not form a physical chain or group, but are spread over a big part of the east Aegean from North to South.

The peninsula has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Its modern name derives from ancient Greek mythology, specifically the legend of the hero Pelops, who was said to have conquered the entire region. The Sporades are a chain of islands along the east coast of Greece, northeast of the island of Euboea, in the Aegean Sea. It consists of 24 islands, of which four are permanently inhabited: Alonnisos, Skiathos, Skopelos and Skyros. The Sporades have a rich wildlife with many bird species and they are as well one of the prime breeding areas of the Mediterranean Monk Seal (an endangered species).
