Chalkidiki borders on the peripheral unit of Thessaloniki to the north.
Its most populous municipalities are Moudania, Kallikrateia, Polygyros, and Kassandra. Its largest towns are Nea Moudania, Nea Kallikrateia and the main town of Polygyros.
